Allen Wayne “Toot” Robinson
Allen Wayne “Toot” Robinson, 65, of Crestview, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, July 28, 2016 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born January 17, 1951 in DeFuniak Springs to Noble Allen and Claudia Garrett Robinson. He attended public schools in Okaloosa County.
At age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he trained to be a road grader operator. Following a brief tour in Germany, he volunteered for the war in Vietnam, where he served two tours. On several occasions during that time he was exposed to the defoliant known as Agent Orange.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned home to work in the construction industry for several years. He was later diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and was eventually declared 100 percent disabled by the U.S. Veteran’s Administration. Before becoming ill, he obtained his GED diploma, attended Tallahassee Junior college and enjoyed writing poetry and prose. In his writings he often displayed an off-beat and wryly humorous look at both the world and his life. He also enjoyed hunting and freshwater fishing.
Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his father, Noble Allen Robinson, and a brother, Kevin Blair Robinson.
He is survived by his mother, Claudia Garrett Patten of Crestview; son, Darius Robinson of Crestview; brother, Roger T. (Linda) Robinson of Crestview; a beloved uncle, Lamar (Alma) Garrett of Fort Walton Beach; nieces and their families, Allyson (Jason) Oury of Crestview and Chera (Phillip) Doty of Daphne, Al.; as well as numerous Garrett and Robinson cousins.
His family would like to extend its appreciation to his caregiver, Lori Schuhr, and to the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice, especially Brenda and Erin.
Graveside services with military honors will be conducted Tuesday, August 2 at 11:45 a.m. in Barrancas National Cemetery on Naval Air Station Pensacola.
Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.whitehurstpowellfuneralhome.com
