Welcome to the memorial page for

Cecil "Bud" Allen Townley

July 30, 1946 ~ June 20, 2016 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Cecil Allen “Bud” Townley passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20th, 2016, just a month shy of his 70th birthday. He was born in Jacksonville, Texas, to Cecil W. and Johnnie (Allen) Townley and grew up in Alto and Dallas, Texas. Summers spent exploring East Texas deepened his love of Texas, the land, and the outdoors. He attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Forest Resource Management. In 1978 Louisiana Pacific Timber moved Cecil to Crestview, Florida, where he lived the rest of his life.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just being out in nature.  He also loved retelling stories of these escapades, with the hauls getting bigger with each telling.

Cecil was a “people person” who never met a stranger. He spent his life making acquaintances and building friendships all over the Florida panhandle. In addition to work in the timber industry, Cecil also spent a portion of his career working with the Boy Scouts of America as a District Executive and, in the later years, working as an insurance agent, which allowed him to talk to people all day for a living.
The greatest joy in Cecil’s life though was his family. He shared wonderful memories of time spent with his grandparents in East Texas. He took great pride in bragging about his children and grandchildren, who, he would assure you, were the smartest and best looking ones on the planet.  He adored his sisters and was a typical older brother even as an adult, teasing them just as strongly as he loved them. But there was no one on Earth he loved as much as his mother.
Cecil was preceded in death by his father.  In addition to his mother in Mesquite, Texas, he is survived by his two sisters, Karen (husband Norris) Kent of Forney, Texas, and Janet (husband Dennis) Geddie of Mesquite, Texas, as well as his three children: Jeff (wife Dyane) Townley of Canton, Michigan; Jamie (husband Chris) Repesh of Gainesville, Virginia; and Justin (wife Karrie) Townley of Chicago, Illinois. He had eight grandchildren ranging in age from 9 months to 16 years, as well as many other beloved extended family members.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview, Florida. Everyone is encouraged to come share memories of Cecil with friends and family. Attire is casual; camouflage is welcome. A graveside service will be held at the family burial plot at Old Palestine Cemetery in Alto, Texas, in August.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to either The Rescued Rescuers (http://werescuedogs.org/,) the Crestview Kiwanis Public Service (P.O. Box 128, Crestview, FL 32536, Attn: Elizabeth Roy,) or to any charity of your choice in Cecil’s memory.
