Chief Master Sergeant Roger O Dingess

November 27, 1946 ~ December 9, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Roger O. Dingess was born on November 27, 1946, in Logan, West Virginia.  Roger passed away at his home with his family by his side, December 9, 2017.  He is the first of two sons born to Odell and Marjorie Dingess.  After graduating from Winter Park High School, Winter Park, Florida in 1966 he worked at the JFK Space Center for Federal Electric Corporation.  He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia A. Michalek in 1967.  Their first child, Stephanie, was born in 1969.Roger O. Dingess enlisted in the United States Air Force at the Armed Forces Induction Station, Jacksonville, Florida on March 26, 1970.

Roger is survived by his wife Patricia Dingess of 50 years, Daughter: Stephanie Davis and Doug, Son: David Dingess and Tammi, Brother: Sparky Dingess and Patsy, Sister-in-law: Barbara Michalek and Pat Dabis, 9 grandchildren: Michael and Kara Dingess, Alexandria and Connor Dupree, Brent Dupree and Amber Dupree, Cameron and Christine Davis, Wyatt Owen, 1 Great grandchild: Brody Davis and one on the way. Numerous nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

In February 1997, Chief Dingess was reassigned to Hurlburt Field, Florida as Heavy Repair Manager for the 16th Civil Engineer Squadron.  He was TDY’d to Randolph AFB, Texas to finish up Source Selection effort as Team Leader and Technical Advisor to the 12th Air Force Contracting.  Many improvements to Hurlburt Field’s mission and quality of life enhancements such as base gyms, Airman Leadership School renovations, base beautification, irrigation systems and airfield erosion and safety problems were the results.  In early February 1998 Chief Dingess was the Advon for Operation Desert Thunder’s bed down of the 9th Air Expeditionary Force in Kuwait, a 90-day TDY.  From that time to present, Chief Roger O. Dingess has been the Superintendent of Readiness Flight at the 16th Civil Engineer Squadron where he has supervised base civil engineers in pre-hurricane and post-recovery efforts after Hurricanes George and Earl.  He’s also been the AFSOC representative on General Lupia’s Air Staff Engineering Chief’s Group.

  Visitation will be held at Whitehurst-Powell Chapel on Thursday, December 14 at 5:00 p.m. Service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetary, Pensacola, Florida 11:30am on Friday, December 15, 2017.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Children in Crisis, 1000 Luke Ave, Ft. Walton Bch, FL  32548.
