Christene Holmes

Christene Holmes, age 84, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016. She was born November 15, 1931 in Holmes County, Florida to Joseph and Minnie Guilford and has been a long time resident of the area.  Christene worked at Alatex and several other companies as a seamstress for many years.  Chris loved fishing, playing music and sitting on the patio.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Myrtle and Joseph Guilford; brother Willard Guilford and sister Mildred Burch; grandchildren: Marcus Hawthorne and Amon Taylor.

            Survivors include her children: Waylan Hawthorne and wife Linda; Vivian Easter and husband Charles; and Gwynn Taylor and husband Myron.  Also surviving are her 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

            The celebration of Christene’s life will be on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home, with a time of visitation to begin at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will be in Geneva, AL in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
