Cleo Chavis

Cleo Locklear Chavis, age 94, of Crestview passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

She was born August 3, 1923 in Clio, SC to Marvin Locklear and Olif Hunt Locklear. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Crestview.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to grandson, John Cawthon for his dedication in acting as primary caregiver for Mr. Z.R. Chavis, prior to his death, and to Mrs. Chavis for the past eight years.  The family would also like to acknowledge daughter, Barbara Steele for the loving care and support she provided

Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Z.R. Chavis; her parents; daughter, Marie Chavis Cawthon; grandson, Brett Chavis; sisters, Bernice Chavis, Tener Moore and Willie Lee Godwin.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Chavis Steele and husband Winston; son, Marvin Chavis and wife Gail; son-in-law, Billy Cawthon; brother, John Howard Locklear and wife Alice; grandchildren, Angie Steele, Becky Steele, Mark Steele and wife Jolene, Lora Chavis Killian and husband Frank, Mack Cawthon and wife Megan, Topher Chavis, John Cawthon; great-grandchildren, Aalliyah Edwards, Braiden Hill, Alex Hill, Zimmie Killian, Zoe Killian, Trip Cawthon and Loxley Cawthon.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home with the service starting at 11:00am.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice for their care and especially Tanya Simon, RN, Case Manager for Mrs. Chavis.
