Connie Ray Roper

Connie Ray Roper, partner, mother, sister, aunt and friend extraordinaire, left this life on July 12, 2016 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Connie was born in Valparaiso, FL on September 10, 1957 to Ray and Beatrice Roper. Connie grew up in Crestview, graduating from Crestview High School in 1975. Connie obtained a bachelors degree in journalism from University of GA and a law degree from FL Coastal School of Law. She realized her lifelong dream of practicing law in her home town and using her expertise to help others. Connie is survived by her soul mate and life partner Charles “Chuck” Newton, and her son Charles Phillip Newton of Crestview. She is survived by the extended Newton family: Wanda and Leonard Newton, Bill and Judy Newton and sons David and Riley, all of Crestview, also Dale and Michelle Newton of MS. Connie is survived by her sister and brother in law, Jeffrey and Mabel Roper Prescott of Destin, and brother and sister in law , Paul Betros and Barbara Betros of Satsuma, AL. She is survived by nephews Paul Betros Jr. and John (Missy) Betros of Satsuma, AL., nieces Rachel Prescott Carney (Dylan), Alana Stone (Aaron), Camellia Prescott of Destin area. She leaves great nephews Jacob Betros and Asa Stone and great nieces Alex Betros, Chloe Betros and Beatrice Carney. Connie is survived by many wonderful, caring friends who supported her in her illness, and to whom the family is immensely grateful. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Connie’s memory to Emerald Coast Hospice, 550 W. Redstone Avenue, #310, Crestview, FL 32536 Connie’s incredible spirit, love, intellect and humor were without precedent. She impacted all who knew her, and she lives forever in our hearts. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends starting at 1pm. Burial will follow at Old Bethel Cemetery in Crestview.
