David J. Miller, age 66, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer on Sept. 21, 2015 in Crestview, Fla.  David is survived by his wife, Connie of 45 years, sons  Ken, Kevin (Joanne), and daughter, Dharlene ( Tommy); his older brother, Leon  Hutchens(Dianne) of Huntsville Ala., his older sister, Jean Harris of Hazel Green, Ala.; his brother, Jerry Miller (Anita ) of Hazel Green Ala ; and his four grandchildren, Marissa, Olivia, Ezra, and Jackie; his numerous nephews and nieces.

David was born on Nov. 10, 1948 in Huntsville, Ala. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Bessie Miller, younger brother, Perry Miller.  David was one of five children, he enlisted in the United States Air force after high school in 1968. He met his wife, Connie at Clark Air Base, Philippines. David was a courageous and decorated veteran and proudly served his country in the Vietnam Conflict, the Invasion of Panama under Operation Just Cause, and Operation Desert Shield/Storm in the Gulf War. In 1992, David retired as a Master Sergeant after selfless service.  After his military career, David worked 20 more years for various contractors at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida before retiring after being diagnosed with cancer.

David (Dave) was a kind hearted, loving, thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many people.  He was an honest and hard working man with integrity and honor. He loved having cookouts and grilling delicious food for all his family and friends to enjoy.  Dave enjoyed nothing more than spending precious time with his family, especially his four grandchildren who brought him so much joy and happiness. 

David was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Crestview and proudly served as a Parish Council Member, Knights of Columbus, and a Minister of Hospitality of whom he loved his fellow ministers. 

Dave’s family would like to thank all of his friends and families for their ongoing love, support, and prayers during his battle with cancer. It means the world to us to know how much you loved Dave.

Viewing will be Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, 5 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home, Crestview. Funeral service will be held at 9a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Fr. John Kelly and Fr. Alvaro Gonzalez officiating. There will be a reception after the burial at the Our Lady of Victory Hall.
