Donald Eugene Young

Donald Eugene Young, 'Don,' passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015 surrounded by family and love. He was born April 3, 1928 in Boylston, Alabama to Cecil and Ruby Young. He was a US Navy veteran, serving 4 years on the Destroyer Collett, from 1945 to 1949. Don was preceded in death by one son Gene Young in 1986. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Betty Young and six children; Donna Mallory and husband Ken, Michael Young and wife Ann, Bobby Young, Tommy Young, Wanda Irlbeck and husband Craig, and Pam Young and wife Renee. Other survivors include his brother David Young and sisters Charlotte Welch, Shirley Maiden, Cara Jean Fisher and Ginny Hightower, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Don worked at IMC/Rainbow Corporation in Americus ,GA for 35 years until retirement. He spent his life loving and caring for his wife, family, and friends. He loved making them laugh, always ready to give. He was beloved and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service celebrating Don’s life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home. Interment will be in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Covenant Hospice Inpatient and Palliative Care Center at 8383 N. Davis HWY North, Pensacola, FL, in memory of Don Young.
