Dr. Eltse Barnhill CarterJuly 26, 1923 ~ January 10, 2018 (age 94)
Friends will regret the passing of Dr. Eltse Barnhill Carter, aka “Chippie” on January 10, 2018 at 5:00pm. She was born on July 26, 1923 in Baker, Florida.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Carter Bozeman and husband Charlie; two grandchildren, Mark Tyson and wife Dorla; Jamie Tyson Wimpy and husband John; 3 grandsons, and 2 great-great grandsons; and many relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Will Barnhill and Lemma “Mae” Barnhill; 1 brother, 2 sisters.
Dr. Carter graduated from Baker High School, received her Bachelors degree from Florida State University, her Masters and Doctorate from George Washington University and was awarded a John Hay Fellowship to Yale University, she had a long career in education in Northern Virginia.
Upon her retirement she returned home to Baker, where she managed her large timber farm and was appointed to the Board of Directors of Okaloosa Walton Junior College.
Her family would like to recognize Sandy Tingle, owner and Patty Snow, director and all of the staff of Carrington Manor, for their kindness care, and love during Eltse’s long stay there. We also, wish to recognize Hospice of the Emerald Coast for their medical care and personal attention.
A time of visitation will be held at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 1:00-2:00PM with the service starting at 2:00pm.
