Elena "Helen" Melton

Elena “Helen” Melton, born in Eukmerge  Lithuania, 89 years young, went to be with The Lord on April 14, 2016.  She met the love of her life (LeeRoy) during his career in the military, in Germany as World War II was coming to an end.  Several years before she met “Roy”, she was taken from her 7th grade classroom by the German military to a work camp where she was imprisoned for about 2 ½ years.  They married in 1946, came to the United States in 1948 and after 65 years of marriage “Roy” passed away in 2012. 

She loved spending time with her children as well as gardening.

Helen was not only a loving and devoted wife and Mother of 6 children, her devoted love extended to 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 5great great grandchildren.

Her children are Betty Clark (Bill) Baker FL, Jean Phipps Savannah GA, Diane Coleman (Terry) Savannah GA, Nancy Lankford (Steve) Greenwood SC, Michael Melton (Angie) Springfield FL and Bobby Melton Richmond Hill GA.

The funeral will be held April 19th at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in the Chapel.  Located at 502 Miller St Ext Statesboro GA.  Visitation 9:30-10:30 with a service following at 10:30 in the Chapel.
