Essie Dell (Beasley) Hurston

Essie Dell Hurston, 95, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2017 at Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center in Crestview, Florida. She was born May 19, 1921, in Florala, Alabama to Annie and Timothy Beasley. She was a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Carl Grady Hurston. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Hurston were lifelong members of First Presbyterian Church in Crestview. She is survived by a daughter, Anita Hurston McCall (husband Sam), of Quincy, Florida; grandson, Chris McCall (wife Amy); three great grandchildren, Emma McCall, Sammy McCall and Sophie McCall, all of Ashburn, Virginia. Very special thanks go to Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care she received over the past several years. Thanks also to Regency Hospice for the recent care she received. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home from 1 until 2 pm. A celebration of her life will begin at 2 pm in the chapel followed by burial at Liveoak Park Cemetery in Crestview. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.
