Jack Drasko

November 11, 1930 ~ April 16, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Jack Drasko, age 85 passed away in his sleep at home on Saturday,  April 16, 2016 in Crestview, FL.    He was born in Moatsville, West Virginia  on November 11, 1930, to Lucy and Daniel Drasko.  He graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1948 and joined the United States Army in 1949.  He was in the Seventh Infantry Division as a communication specialist in the Third Battalion Headquarters Company.  After a bitter battle on the Yula River in North Korea, Jack was wounded and suffered frostbite.  After 12 months in the hospital he received a medical discharge in 1952.  During his time in service he received:  Expert Rifle Badge, Good Conduct medal, Japanese Occupation Ribbon, United States, Korean Service Robbon,  Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, and was recommended for the Bronze Star for the rescue of two wounded Soilders who were pinned down by enemy forces during his service in North Korea.

Jack graduated from the University of Florida in 1957 with a degree in Agriculture Economics and went to work for Farmers Home Administration for the next 30 years, retiring in 1985.  Jack was avid yard sale enthusiast and enjoyed weekend treasure hunting with his son Mike.  He also enjoyed reading and was a steadfast and patient patriarch of a very large and loving family.

            Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Ann Dyess of Rosington, Alabama; one sister Helen Morgan of Walnut Hill, Florida; one brother Mack Drasko of Gainesville. FL; four children Mike and Pam Drasko, Gayle and Mike Kent, Marcia Drasko-Fox and John Fox, Angela Sheets of Crestview, FL, 12 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren.  Jack was preceeded in death by his parents Lucy and Daniel Drasko; Sister Marcella Robinson and brother Dan Drasko, Jr. 

            A time of visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at WhitehurstPowell  Funeral home from 6PM – 8PM.  The funeral for Jack will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (3 Del Cerro Camino Drive) on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11 AM.  Interment will be at the Old Bethel Cemetery following the services.
