James Derek Lovelace, SN

            Derek Lovelace, age 21 of Crestview, passed away May 6, 2016,  while following his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL.  He was born in Landstuhl, Germany on May 27, 1994.  Derek joined the US Navy and graduated basic training on January 28, 2016 in Great Lakes, Illinois.  He passed away during his SEAL training in San Diego, CA.  Derek played baseball at Crestview High School and Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette, AL.  He also enjoyed any activity on the water.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Katie Lovelace.  Survivors include his father, James Lovelace; sisters, Lynsi Price of Ft. Drum, NY and Kaysi Lovelace of Crestview; grandparents, Jan Pugh of Pensacola and James and Sandi Lovelace of Beckley, WV, and Nancy Gragg of  Sandy Springs, West Virginia; and numerous aunts, uncles and extended family.

The funeral service for Derek will take place Friday, May 13, 2016 at 5:00pm at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 3:30. Burial will follow at a later date in a private setting.
