JAMES “CRESTON” BARROW

April 29, 1927 – May 10, 2016

Creston Barrow, age 89, of the Oak Grove Community near Blackman, Florida, Okaloosa County, went to be with the Lord May 10, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL.  He was born in the Oak Grove Community, Baker, FL on April 29, 1927 and was a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County.  He was a member of the Blackman Church of Christ.  He was a retired carpenter and farmer. 

He was preceded in death by his parents James (Jim) Columbus Barrow and Janie “Ruth” Stabler Barrow.  Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years Marie Tew Barrow of Baker, FL; four children Patsy McDonald (Joe) of Baker, FL, Sharon Hillmeyer (Jerry) of San Antonio, TX, Linette Jerkins (Jack) of Baker, FL, Doyle Barrow (Cheryl) of Baker, FL; three grandchildren Toni LaFear (Rob), Adrian Luke (Shonda), Nathan Barrow (Courtney) all of Crestview; two-step grandchildren Jessica Barrow (Jamie) of Brewton, AL and Joseph Jerkins of Laurel Hill; six great grandchildren Tyler, Dylan, Cole and Justin LaFear, Aiden and Brynlee Luke all of Crestview; one step-great grandchild Jassy Barrow of Brewton, AL; one brother Ray Barrow and friend Norah Handley of Homestead, FL; two nephews Randy Barrow of Homestead, FL, Jim Barrow (Judy-Lynn) of Fort Worth, TX; one neice JoEllen Caines (Eddie) of St. Augustine, FL,; two great-nephews Clayton Caines of Jacksonville, FL and Charlie Caines of Gainesville, FL; one sister-in-law Gracie Mae Tew of Baker, FL and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at a viewing at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home from 2:00-3:00 pm Saturday, May 14, 2016 with funeral services following at 3:00 pm with Verne and Christopher Ragle officiating.  Pallbearers are Tyler LaFear, Dylan LaFear, Jimmy Barrow, Randy Barrow, Jamie Barrow and Joseph Jerkins.  Entombment will follow at the Cotton Cemetery in Escambia Farms.  A deep thanks and appreciation is given to the nurses and doctors of the ICU at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.  Heartfelt thanks and appreciation is given to all the friends and neighbors that kept an eye on him while he was working in his beloved garden each year.

After the graveside service family will receive friends at the home of Jack and Linette Jerkins on Creston Barrow Road.
