Jerry Edwin Downs

Jerry Edwin Downs, age 91, of Crestview, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, April 12, 2016, in Niceville. He was born June 30, 1924 to the late John and Jeffree Downs. Jerry was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Crestview, and a Shriner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Betty Skinner Downs. Jerry is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Downs Nease (Richard), Pamela Downs Miller (Larry) and Jeri Lynn Downs; four grandchildren, Richard Scott Nease, Christopher Lee Nease, Laura Miller Smalling (Daniel) and Stephanie Elizabeth Miller; and two great grandchildren, Cody Andrew Nease and Emma Claire Smalling. A celebration of Jerry’s life will take place at 2 PM on Friday, April 15, 2016, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home., with Chaplain Ralph Molyneux officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 1 PM. Committal services and burial will be at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery in Crestview. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Emerald Coast Hospice in Jerry’s memory. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.
