Joan Mary (Kaiser) Scharnow

Joan Mary Scharnow (nee Kaiser) passed away peacefully on the evening of October 26, 2017 following an extended illness. She was 88. Joan was born on May 7, 1929 in Fond Du Lac, WI to her parents, Paul and Adele Kaiser. She graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Dental Hygiene in 1949 and practiced as a Dental Hygienist for over 35 years. She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart Harlyn Herbert (Herb) Scharnow in 1950. The Scharnows moved often and lived in several places both here in the states and abroad as Herb served in the United States Air Force and Joan worked as a Dental Hygienist. Joan retired in 1998 and dedicated her remaining time to caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and as member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Crestview and former sister of the Legion of Mary. Joan was an avid football fan, especially of her beloved Miami Dolphins and University of Miami Hurricanes and always enjoyed a feisty card game. Joan is survived by four children: son, Michael Scharnow & wife Sandra, of Tampa, Florida, daughter, Marsha (Scharnow) Coots & husband James, of Crestview, Florida, daughter, Marla (Scharnow) Ames & husband Robert, of Climax, Georgia, and son, Mark Scharnow & wife Terri, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, extended family: Lani & Chuck Duncan and children - Caitlyn & Carly, twelve grandchildren: Christopher, Geoffrey, Lorinda, Mat, James, Katie, Kelli, Robbie, Justin, Jessica, Ryan, Courtney, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband: Harlyn Herbert (Herb) Scharnow, parents: Paul & Adele Kaiser, and two Brothers, John Paul Kaiser and Dell Leo Kaiser. Joan was cremated on November 2, 2017 and a memorial Mass in her honor will be held on December 16, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church in Crestview, Florida.
