Maudree Barrow, "Maw" to her family, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 12, 2015. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, sweetheart and soul mate, Charles Barrow ("Paw"), to whom she was married for 63 years. Maudree was born on October 15, 1921, to Alma Florence Gunter Day and Henry Van Day in Laurel Hill, Florida. She was a member of Pyron Chapel Baptist Church. Maudree is survived by her three children: Bobby Barrow (Sue), Sonja Wadsworth ("KR"), and Beth Barrow. There are five grandchildren: Scott Barrow (Donna), Mark Wadsworth (Charlotte), Gena Bolton (Clay), Shannon Spence (Floyd), and Kenya Risen (Shawn). Also 15 great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Amber, Chase, Landon, Dylan, Hana, Aidan, Melissa, Audrey, Rachael, Jacob, Heather, Jessica, David and Savannah. She is also survived by many great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family.
Our Maw was a protector of children and a collector of strays, a baker of biscuits and pecan pies. She was gentle and funny and had a formidable wit. She demonstrated her love by keeping us all fed. Our weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning (Psalm 30:5). Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57).
Funeral services will be directed by Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 1:00 pm, the family to arrive an hour early. The Rev. Alton Nixon will officiate. Burial will follow at Pyron Chapel Baptist Church in Baker.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the nurses and CNAs at Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center, each of whom was so special.
