Mervin E. Smith, Jr.

Mervin E. Smith, age 85 of Pensacola passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016.  He was born on August 3, 1930 in Basye, Virginia. Mervin served with distinction for 33 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, retiring from the FBI lab in 1986 as a Supervisory Fingerprint Examiner.  Mervin enjoyed cheering on his beloved Redskins and Duke Blue Devils.  He also loved fishing and reading, but most of all spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s events.

            Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Eloise Brooks Smith: children Tim Smith, Steve Smith and wife Gayla, Tina Hulser and husband Dave.

            Also surviving are his grandchildren: Ashton Jones and husband Street, Marshall Smith and wife Lauren, Connor Hulser, Hailey Hulser, and Kendall Hulser.

            A time of visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home. The celebration of Mervin’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Pyron Chapel Baptist Church of Baker, with burial to follow at Pyron Chapel Cemetery.
