NORMAN CASEY

May 31, 1928 ~ June 4, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Norman J. Casey

May 31,1928 - June 4, 2016

Mister Norman (Spud) Casey passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of June 4, 2016.

Norman was born in DeFuniak Springs, Florida on May 31,1928 to Norman L. and Sidney L. Casey.   During his childhood his family lived in several locations around Northwest Florida including Walton County, Okaloosa County, Wakulla County, and Santa Rosa County.  He graduated from Milton High School in 1946 and went to work in his father’s general store (N.L. Casey & Sons) in Milton until he founded his own electrical contracting business in 1948.  Norman met Anna Ruth Hinote while they were both attending Milton High School and they were married July 25, 1946.  The entire family moved to a small farm near Holt, Florida in 1951 when Norman’s father sold the Milton general store and retired.  Norman and Ruth then opened a small office on East Woodruff Avenue in Crestview for the electrical contracting business.  During the mid 50’s Norman also worked for a company headquartered in Alma, Georgia and traveled around the country doing government contract work installing runway lighting and aircraft guidance systems on military and civilian airports.  In late 1958 Norman and Ruth moved to a home at 898 Georgia Street in Crestview and located Norman’s electrical contracting business on the same property.  In 1964 they expanded the business to include air conditioning and heating and in 1975 they incorporated the business as Casey Electric, Inc.  In 1980 they moved the business to 225 North Ferdon Boulevard where it remains today.  Norman and Ruth retired from Casey Electric in the mid nineties and the business is now owned and operated by their son Roger and his wife Ginny.  After retiring from Casey Electric Norman worked at the Crestview Walmart in the electronics department for almost ten years.  He was also a Master Mason of Mount Ewell Lodge Number 131 of Baker, Florida and was in active Masonic service for more than sixty years.

Norman is survived by his beautiful wife of almost seventy years, Ruth and three loving children, Larry and his wife Cathy of Almond, North Carolina, Theda (T.J.) and her husband Donnie Todd of Holt, and Roger and his wife Ginny of Crestview.  He will also be sorely missed by his ten grand children and seventeen great grand children, they were all sure to bring a smile to his face and a prank to his mind.  Norman will be remembered by all as a kind and honorable man who loved his family, his friends and his employees.

The family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or their favorite charity in Norman’s memory.  The family would also like to sincerely thank the staff at the Crestview Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of Norman and their kindness to the family during his stay with them.

There will be a visitation at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview onThursday June 9th from 5 until 7pm.  The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
