Opal (Wadsworth) Barnhill

Opal Barnhill, age 83, passed away early Friday morning, May 5, 2017, at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview. She was born in Milligan, Florida, October 2, 1933 to the late Hamp and Dora (Johnson) Wadsworth. Opal worked for Alatex Company in Crestview for 15 years. She was the wife of the late Rev. Dorland Barnhill who pastored several area churches including Milligan Assembly, where she assisted in teaching Sunday School, leading the choir along with the countless other duties in support of her husband. She was most recently a member of Shady Grove Church in Baker. Opal loved quilting, and donated many of her works of love and labor, as well as her time to missionaries around the world. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Freeman. Opal is survived by a son and daughter in law, Darrell and Debbie Barnhill, Santa Rosa Beach; grandchildren, Wesley and Brian Barnhill, and William “B. J.” Moody and Kristine Moody Todd; also surviving are six great grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, May 8, 2017, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Funeral services will be at 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Mel Coon officiating and Rev. Donnie Cadenhead providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in Griffith Cemetery in Baker.
