Patricia Lane Chaney Stephens

         1929 – 2016

Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Patricia Lane Chaney Stephens, age 87, peacefully passed away Thursday morning, December 29, 2016 at Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center.  Born on February 27, 1929, she spent the majority of her childhood in Dallas, Texas.  In 1947, she graduated from Highland Park High School.  Following graduation, Pat, as she was affectionately called, attended Southern Methodist University from 1947-1948.  During her time at SMU, she was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, honored to be selected as a Beauty by the SMU Rotunda Yearbook (1948), she became engaged to her first husband John Taliaferro Scogin, III.  The two were married in 1948 and started a family.  Pat was suddenly widowed, in 1950, after John died in a plane crash serving our country as a US Navy pilot.  In 1952, Pat married Albert Paul Stephens, they shared a loving relationship until Paul’s death in 1998.  In addition to raising four children, she was a member of the Dallas Women’s Club and Junior League of Dallas.  As an accomplished runner, she earned membership into the Million Mile Club and trained as a member of the Original Cooper Fitness Center.  Throughout her life Pat lived in El Paso, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Dallas, Texas; Pensacola, Florida; Phoenix, Arizona; and Crestview, Florida.  Family was very important to Pat and it showed through her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Second only to her love for family was her love for her dogs, especially Jett, Magic, and Geraldine.  Additionally, she loved to listen to Frank Sinatra and would like everyone to know that she did her best.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John Riley Chaney and Emma Kathlane Logsdon; her sister, Mary Jane Ritter; her brother, Jack Richard Chaney; husbands, John Taliaferro Scogin, III and Albert Paul Stephens, Sr. Pat is survived by a sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Brown of Dallas, Texas; four children, Sheryl Scogin Bradley (husband, Lonnie)of Crestview, Florida, John Taliaferro Scogin, IV (wife, Vicki) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Albert Paul Stephens, Jr. (wife, Louise)of Phoenix, Arizona, and Elizabeth Jane Qualls (husband, Wayne) of Highland Village, Texas; ten grandchildren, Brian Paul Bradley (wife, Lesley), Wade Scott Bradley (wife, Misty), Matthew John Bradley, Alexandra Paige Stephens, Albert Paul Stephens, III, Anthony Phillip Stephens, Austin Patrick Stephens, Andrew Parker Stephens, Patricia Kath Lane Qualls, and Jesse Evan Qualls; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Memorial service to be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, Dallas, Texas; on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2:00.
