Robert D. "Bob" McGuire

Bob McGuire, age 85 of Crestview passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017, in El Dorado, AR.  He was born in Pensacola, FL on May 1, 1932, to Lila and Joe McGuire.  Bob graduated from Crestview High School in 1950 and from Auburn University in 1954, with a degree in Foreign Languages.  Bob served his country in the United States Army for 20 years.  He retired as a Major after serving at home, as well as in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, he went to work with the Clerk’s Office for 22 years.  During that time, he was the Finance officer for 16 years.  Bob enjoyed learning and continued his education while working, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from University of West Florida and his Master’s Degree in Administration from Central Michigan.  Bob was very active in the local Masonic lodge and the Shriners, as well as Scottish and York Rites Bodies.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Crestview.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Lila and Joe McGuire, his brother: Jerry McGuire and his precious wife of 60 years Dotsie McGuire.

          Survivors include his children: Monica Tompkins and husband Mark of Crestview, Mike McGuire and wife Becky of TX; and Steve McGuire and wife Tammy of AR.  Also surviving are his grandchildren: Bob Miller and wife Gena, Lisa Hicks and husband Josh, and Ashley Shaffer and husband Seth.  3 great grandchildren survive Bob, as well.

          A time of visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m.  The celebration of Bob’s life will be on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery.
