Welcome to the memorial page for

Ronald Derwood "R.D." Luker

June 6, 1937 ~ March 28, 2016 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Ronald Derwood (R.D. or Ron) Luker, age 78, husband of Juanita Martin Luker, passed into glory on March 28, 2016 in Little Rock, Arkansas following a short illness.

Ron was a long time member of Airport Road Church of Christ in Crestview, Florida teaching Sunday School for many years, participating in mission trips, serving as Elder and tirelessly helping others in need.   Through the years, as the family moved locations, Ron served faithfully as Deacon or Elder at each new church home.  He and Juanita, who married in November, 2015, had recently moved to Little Rock, Arkansas and joined Levy Church of Christ.

After working for the United States Postal Service for over thirty years, Ron went on to do contract work for the Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for several years.

R.D. played softball well into his 60’s and remained active until his death.  He also loved playing games – dominos, cards and board games – with his friends, children and grandchildren.  Reading was another passion and books, and later his Kindle, were ever present as he enjoyed mysteries, thrillers and histories.

In addition to wife Juanita, he is survived by one brother, J.N. Luker, two daughters, Suzanne Luker (Suzanne Lindsey), Dee Hurst (Doug Hurst), four grandchildren, Megan Mammarelli, Payton Hurst (Sarabeth Hurst), Addison Hurst and Riley Hurst, one great granddaughter, Luca Adeline Mammarelli, brother-in-law Jimmy Sanders and step-children Tonya Martin Turner and Sean Martin.  Also included are many nephews and nieces.

R.D. was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Helen Sanders Luker, brother Glenn Luker, sisters Hazel Etheridge and Ruth Parker, brother-in-law Douglas Sanders and sister-in-law Linda Lee Sanders.

A memorial service will be held May 14, 2016 at 11:30AM at the Airport Road Church of Christ, Crestview, Florida.  There will be no graveside service.

In lieu of flowers or plants, please make a donation in Ron’s name to the Education Fund at the Airport Church of Christ, American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
