Patricia Speed Obituary

Pat Speed, amazing mother, wife, grandmother, and longtime resident of Crestview, Florida, departed this earth at 5:46 pm on April 11, 2024, and went straight into the arms of her Savior after a long battle with dementia.

Pat was born on the front porch of her family home in Enon, Louisiana on December 3, 1940. After graduating in 1959 from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama, she married her husband of 44 years, Tom Speed. Over the next 10 years, they would move their family of five to live in Mobile, Eufaula, Fort Walton, Valparaiso, and finally plant their roots in Crestview, Florida in February of 1970.

The two things Pat loved more than anything else in this world were Jesus Christ and her family. She dedicated her life to serving both.

Pat’s relationship with Jesus Christ always came first. No matter what city she was living in, she made getting plugged into a church a priority for her family. Whether it was singing in the choir, playing the piano, playing the organ, teaching a Sunday School class, or working in the church office … Pat served her Lord, and she served well.

Pat was a private piano teacher for over 40 years.

She loved to cook, sew, and read. She loved Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves.

She was constantly traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. She made it her priority to be present in their world.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Speed, her mother and father, and her sister, Merilyn.

She is survived by her children Tom (Linda) Speed, Joy (David) Moore, and Paul (Niki) Speed. She was the most incredible “Granny” to Erin, Joshua, Bethany, David, Hannah, Nathan, Josiah, Lydia, Daniel, Sarah, and Anna… and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Maxine, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at 10 am on Saturday, April 20 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Crestview Florida. Visitation will follow afterward.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider contributing to First Baptist Church Music Ministry. You may donate via mail or online at fbcew.org.
