Aljonia Beatrice Porter

Sister Aljonia Beatrice Allen Porter was born November 13, 1948, in Tallahassee, Florida, to the late Samuel Alphonse Allen and Caroline Jacquelene Baker Allen. 

 

After graduating from Carver Hill High School in 1965, she attended Ohio State University and Okaloosa-Walton Junior College. 

 

Sister Porter met the love of her life, Herman Porter Jr., in 1966 at the Bowling Alley on Eglin Air Force Base, where he was stationed. They were married on November 19, 1966, and recently celebrated their 51st anniversary. 

 

Sister Porter was baptized on March 25,1956 at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Baker, Florida, where she was a faithful member. She has served as Assistant Church Clerk, Church Recorder, Director of Easter and Christmas programs, former Women's Day Chairperson, former Symbol of Womanhood, Youth Sunday School Teacher, Youth Department Director, former Senior Choir President and member.  She started the Annual Hat Day for women, the Annual Vest Day for men, and the Annual Fall Festival. She was famous for her cakes, pies and food.

 

Sister Porter served many years with Okaloosa County Supervisor of Elections as a Precinct 12 Poll Clerk. 

 

Sister Aljonia B. Porter departed this life on January 5, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Caroline Allen. 

 

She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Herman Porter, Jr; two daughters, Shawneese M. Baysmore and Yolanda G. Porter, and one son, Sherman E. Hall; six grandchildren, Lashaundra (Terry Jr.) Miles, Tiana, Denzil, Brandi, Montoya and Sherman Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Damin, Deyshon, Davonte, and Denzil Jr.; one brother Samuel (Cassandra) Allen, Jr.; two sister-in-laws, Arametta Porter and Judy Young, one brother-in-law, Yorick (Beverly) Porter; one aunt, Josephine Baker; two godchildren; Nikki and Nacari; special daughters and sons; Terri, Vaneesa, Lori and Terry, LaToya, Kathie, Brenda and Dewayne; special grandchildren; Sandra, Darion, Vyandori, Jawanza and Samia; special great-grandchildren; Chaysen and Skyla; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

A time of visitation will be held at Lebanon Baptist Church on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10:00-11:00am with the funeral service starting at 11:00am.
