Barbara Sue Adams

Barbara Sue Adams, 82, was called home to the Lord on June 26, 2019. Barbara was born November 4, 1936 in Andalusia, Alabama to Robert and Susannah Taylor. She grew up in Escambia Farms Florida and attended Laurel Hill High School in Laurel Hill, Florida and graduated in 1954. Shortly after graduating high school, she went to work for Purl Gordon Adams Law Firm in Crestview, Florida. She married Purl Gordon Adams, Jr., on August 14, 1955 and they were blessed with five children Debra, Donna, Purl, Paul and Phillip. Her lifelong passion was being a wife, mother, homemaker, and devoted Christian. She was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church of Crestview and served as president for the United Methodist Women for many years. After raising her family Barbara went to work for Okaloosa County School Board in the transportation Department and she retired from there. Barbara also enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, gardening and swimming. She dedicated her life to her family and was a strong, loving mother and a devoted wife and Christian. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Purl Gordon Adams, Jr. son of Senator Purl Gordon Adams; her parents, Robert Lee Taylor and Susannah “Suddie” Jane Wiggins Taylor; eight of her brothers and sisters and her daughter, Donna Elizabeth Adams Austin. She is survived by her four children, Debra Jane Adams Barrow, Purl Gordon Adams III, Robert Paul Adams and Phillip Lee Adams; her sister, Willie Jean Campbell; twelve grandchildren, Justin Haas, Christin barrow, Chelsea Barrow, Leslie Baggett, Leann Baggett, Everett Baggett, Casey Adams Davis, Purl Adams IV, Paul Adams, Morgan Adams, Courtney Adams, Phillip Adams II and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church of Crestview beginning at 2:00pm with Burial to follow at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery The family will receive friends for visitation on July 1, 2019 from 6-8pm at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.
