Chief Joseph Traylor age 73 of Crestview passed away on Friday January 11, 2019 at North Okaloosa Medical Center. He was born in Columbia, La on July 2, 1945. Chief spent 28 years serving his country in the United States Air Force. He served 2 tours in Vietnam and in Korea, Guam, and Madrid. During his career he also spent many years on the west coast. After retiring as a Chief Master SGT, he settled in Crestview, FL and went to work for the Crestview Fire Department as the Chief and served his community for 24 years. Chief Traylor loved to ride his motorcycle, loved firearms, especially historical weapons from the WW I and WW II era. Most of all Chief loved his family. Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Joanna Traylor, children Tony Thomas and wife Stephanie, Butch Betts and Misti, and Michael Traylor and wife Debbie. His brother John Willie Traylor and wife Marla and a sister Sharon Smith and husband Gary. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Morgan, Kasey, Justin, Brad, Ryan, and Ashley. An uncle Charles Bush survives along with many many friends. The celebration of Chief Traylor’s life will be on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Crestview Community Center. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Chief’s memory to Wounded Warriors and the Gary Sinise Foundation.
