Doris Evelyn Hughes

Evelyn Hughes, age 81 of Holt passed away on December 27, 2017.  She was born on October 13, 1936 to Howard and Alma Crain in the Harold Community.  Evelyn was a member of Pyron Chapel Baptist Church.  She loved to read, talking with her friends, sewing, and cooking.  Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Edith Dubose and 2 daughters: Teresa Summerlin and Sharon Summerlin Jordan.

            Survivors include her son Jonathan Dewayne Summerlin, sister Elsie Thompson, 4 grandchildren: Nicki Jordan, Will Jordan, Ashley Gaytan and husband Michael, and Jordyn Summerlin.  Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren: Carson Sayers, Chloe Ates, Landon Jordan, Alyssa Gaytan, Ella Sayers, Bradyn Allen and Bryden Gaytan, along with special family and friends.

            A time of visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m.  The celebration of Doris’ life will be on Friday, January 5, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral.  A private family burial will take place at Old Holt Cemetery.
