Emily Ruth Cassity

April 17, 1925 ~ June 3, 2018 (age 93)

Emily Ruth Lynch Cassity began her journey in Clovis, NM on April 17, 1925. It ended on June 3, 2018 in Crestview FL. Emily is predeceased by her husband Richard Cassity, brother Frederick Lynch and parents Mabel and Frederick Lynch. She is survived by her 3 children, Rick (Bob), Bill (Annette) and Carol Cassity, two grandchildren, Robert and Bill Jr, Nieces Linda Cantrell (Randy), Jennifer, Caroline(Marty), and Caren (Joey), four great nieces and eight great-great nieces and nephews.

She spent most of her childhood in the East Tennessee/Virginia area. LaFollette, TN is where she called “home”. Emily graduated from Virginia Commonwealth with her RN degree and joined the US Army Nurse core. She served in Europe and Fort Benning, Georgia. While at Ft. Benning, she met and married Richard Cassity. Emily resigned her commission as Captain in 1957. She and Richard moved to Miami, FL and raised their family. After raising her children she earned her BS from Florida International University in Nursing Administration.

Richard was a teacher and every summer was spent either in Tennessee (with a large extended family) and/or traveling around the country in an RV. Emily was always up for a road trip and visited most of the United States, Canada and Europe. Her last big trip was when her sons took her on a Caribbean cruise for her ninetieth birthday.

She volunteered at many different charities throughout her life. She gave of herself quietly and without fanfare to friends, family and those in need. She was active in the Methodist Church her entire life. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Crestview.

She was an avid lover of animals. She enjoyed visits from animals of any kind. The family would especially like to thank Southside Animal Hospital for allowing kitten visits to Emily at the ALF.

The family would also like to thank the caring staff at Crescent Park Village for providing phenomenal care during Emily’s last six years on this earth. They have gone above and beyond in their care and concern.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) or Kitten Rescue at Southside Animal Hospital, Crestview, FL.

A time of visitation will be held on July 20, 2018 from 3-4:00pm at First United Methodist Church with funeral service starting at 4:00pm.
