Emily Lois Ellis

1917-2019

After 102 years of life on this planet, Emily Lois (Raley) Ellis drew her last breath and went to be with her Lord on February 7, 2019 at Carington Manor in Crestview, Florida.

Emily was born on January 20, 1917 to Joseph Columbus Raley and Annie Pearl (Edge) Raley. She graduated from Walton County High School in 1936, and then worked in retail stores for many years. She married John Clayton Ellis on June 26, 1940 and lived happily with him until his death in 1992. They became the proud parents of a daughter, Emily Sharon Ellis, on December 23, 1942 and a son, Larry Clayton Ellis, on October 22, 1944. Emily and John were long time members of the First Baptist Church in Crestview and she sang in the choir for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and especially enjoyed quilting, crocheting and needle point. She resided in Crestview for most of her life. In the last years of her life she lived with her daughter for nine years and then under the care of Carington Manor for four years.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Marvin Emmitt (Lilly) Raley, brother Joseph Calvin (Mara Nell) Raley, brother Eldon Otha (Georgie) Raley, and sister Doris Lynette (Johnny) Johnson. She was also preceded in death by five brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law and their spouses.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Georgie, daughter Sharon and son-in-law Carson Sasser, son Larry and daughter-in-law, Rogene, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will begin at 11:00am on, February 11, 2019 and the service will be held at noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Old Bethel Cemetery following the service.
