Jack McMasters Obituary

Jack Richard McMasters, age 83, of Crestview, Florida, passed away on January 4, 2020. Jack was born on March 1, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Ben and Lucille McMasters. Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954. As a munitions handler and explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) specialist, Jack was stationed all over the world to include serving in Korea and in Vietnam.

While stationed at Eglin AFB and working as night manager at the NCO Club, he met Glenda, the love of his life and wife of almost 46 years. During his career, he received several Bronze Stars and an Army Commendation Medal for his tour in Vietnam, six Air Force Commendation Medals (with five Oak Leaf Clusters), and numerous other awards.

Jack retired from the Air Force in 1979 as a Senior Master Sergeant. Following retirement, he kept busy with a variety of jobs, to include working at James Lee Motors, the Florida Lottery, the City of Crestview, and Vitro Technical Services; flipping houses and helping anyone who needed help with a DIY project. He also owned a men’s clothing store and became affectionately known as ‘the Silver Fox’. Jack was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and was a founding member of the EOD Master Blasters.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Glenda, four daughters (Kim [Allen], Shawn, Angela, and Peggy) and one son (Tim). He is also survived by five grandchildren (Candice [Alan], Ryan [Elizabeth], Christie [Jason], Rebecca [Keith], and Rachel) and three great-grandchildren (AJ, Audrey, and Alex).

A time of visitation will be held Tuesday night, January 7, from 6:00 – 8:00pm and a service will be conducted Wednesday morning, January 8, at 11:00am, both at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home. A military interment will be held at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
