Johnnie Atwell, Jr age 76 of Crestview passed away on Monday September 23, 2019 at Crestview Rehab Center surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Campton, FL on April 10th, 1943 to Johnnie and Cora Atwell, and has been a lifelong resident of Crestview. Johnnie graduated from Crestview Senior High School in 1963. After graduation he enlisted with the United States Air Force. Upon being discharged from the Air Force Johnnie worked at Fairchild industries for 17 years and then went to work at Duke field before retiring. He liked to hunt and fish, loved to watch NFL games, and enjoyed working on radios and appliances. Johnnie loved to play cards and throw darts. He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings.
Survivors include his children: Lifetime friend and mother of his children Joelene Atwell, Steffanie Cook and her husband Ragan, Melissa Simmons and her husband Todd, and Christopher Gainey and Charity Smith. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The celebration of Johnnie’s life will be on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery. A time of visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 a.m.
