Kay Campbell Miller

Obituary

Kay Campbell Miller “Mimi” went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 3, 2017 surrounded by her loving husband of 37 years, Tommy Miller, children Sean Miller and Katherine Miller Parker and other close family and friends.

Kay was born on May 23, 1957 to the late Earl & June Campbell in the town she loved and called home, Crestview, FL. Kay was a Daddy’s girl and was always under the protection of her three older brothers by decree of her dad.  She was feminine, elegant, and poised but she was always competitive and faster than all the boys.

Kay was Mimi to her beloved grandchildren who were her pride and joy.  Her grandchildren adored her and encouraged her throughout her battle with cancer.  Her granddaughter, Addilyn, lovingly renamed Mimi, “Brave Mimi” and her grandsons, Jackson & Maddox, prayed every night that she would be strong again like Samson.  The names were fitting because she fought hard until the very end.

Kay graduated from Crestview High School, Class of 1975.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from The University of South Alabama and her Master’s Degree from the University of West Florida.  She was a retired teacher of the Okaloosa County Public School system after nearly 30 years of teaching.   Kay spent a majority of her teaching career as a title 1 teacher, at Northwood Elementary where she shaped the minds of countless children as she passionately helped students learn to read, giving them a foundation for the rest of their education and ultimately their lives.

Kay was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.  She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and June Campbell, mother in law Jane Miller, brother in law Kenny Miller, and grandchild Micah Miller.  She is survived by all who were blessed to have had their lives touched by hers; most notably, her husband Tom “Tommy” Miller; children, Sean (Mandy) Miller and Katherine (Bradley) Parker; father in law, Arthur Miller; brothers, Wayne Campbell, David (Sherry) Campbell, and Gregory “Corky” (Debbie) Campbell; sister in law, Nancy Brown; brother in law, Benny Miller; grandchildren, Jackson Miller, Addilyn Parker, Maddox Miller, Alistair Parker, and Oliver Knox Miller; best friends, Renee (Kenny) Rogers, Leigh Ann (Andy) Campbell, long-time friends, Jeff (Patty) Clack and Pat (John) Kimble, and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family will have visitation from 6:00-8:00PM on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home.  A Celebration of life will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, December 8, 2017, at her church, Crosspoint, South Campus in Crestview.  Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.  Kay was a very generous and selfless person who was the hands and feet of Jesus to the least of these.  She had a desire to see all come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  In honor of her generous spirit we ask that anyone wishing to make a donation in her honor would consider the following organizations:  Children’s Home Society of Florida, Samaritan’s Purse, World Vision, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or The American Lung Association.  We also ask that anyone able would consider donating blood and platelets in her honor.
