Mavis “MayMay” Whitfield age 68 of Holt passed away on Monday May 6, 2019 at her home. She was born on August 17, 1950 to Pasco and Jessie Mae Broxson. She was a forced to be reckoned with. Better known as “MayMay”, Granny, or Mom, once you were in her circle, you were there for life! She was the pillar of her family and for most who knew her well. She loved hard, but she didn’t have a problem telling anyone what she thought. Mavis loved hanging out on the porch with good friends drinking a cold one, and the laughter of her grandchildren and great grandchildren playing in the yard. She loved a good yard sale and she would negotiate a penny sale down to 2 for a penny. Mavis also didn’t mind cheating at go fish even with her 5-year-old grandson. She had a full life with her late husband, Freddie Whitfield spending days in their favorite place…. outdoors. Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Freddie Whitfield and brother Buddy Broxson. Survivors include her loving companion Mario Avilia, son Randy Whitfield and wife Cathie, Daughter Belinda Whitfield and Britton Jernigan, brother T.J. Broxson, sister Magdalene Kelley and Lener Frazier. Her pride and joy also survive, her grandchildren Michael Whitefield and wife Bonnie, Emma Jernigan, Ava Jernigan, Kimberly Bowden, and her great grandchildren Skylee and Carter Whitfield, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The celebration of Mavis’ life and time of visitation will be on Friday May 10th, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will take place later. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.whitehurstpowellfuneralhome.com
