Robert "Bob" Dean McLendon

Robert Dean McLendon ‘Bob”, age 85, of Baker, FL, passed away peacefully Monday, June 12th, 2017. Bob was born on May 24th, 1932 to the late Robert Virgil and Sarah Louise Dean McLendon in Conecuh County, AL.

Three children were born to Bob and his late wife Judy. Their daughter, Lucy McLendon, resides in Pensacola, FL. Daughter Rosemary Howell, who is married to James, resides in DeFuniak Springs, FL. Bob and Judy’s son, Clay McLendon, resides in Baker, FL with his wife Debbie. There are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren or “punkins” as Bob called them. He was proud that several inherited his beautiful blue eyes.

Bob enjoyed growing up on a farm in Brooklyn, AL. At the young age of 14 years Bob began his work career by driving a truck to Waukesha, WI to pick up fertilizer. He also drove a school bus as well as delivered ice locally. Later, Bob helped design buses for Southern Coach in Evergreen, AL. Bob always worked hard and loved to dream about his next work adventure. In the late 1960’s Bob moved his family to Baker where he opened Bob’s Ag Air Service and bravely flew as a crop duster. Many of the co-workers and friends Bob had along the way became family to him. He generally loved people and would help those that he could. Bob’s sense of humor was unforgettable.

The family is especially grateful to Dr. James W. Howell, Healthmark Regional Medical Center, and Bob’s extended family at the Manor at Blue Water Bay for the superior care given to Bob during his time of need.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Saturday, June 17th, 2017 at 2:00pm with visitation beginning at 1:00pm at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home, 436 West James Lee Blvd., Crestview, FL. Pastor Donnie Cadenhead will be presiding. Flowers are appreciated as well as donations in Bob’s memory to the Ronald McDonald House (RMH), 5200 Bayou Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32503.
