Sonja Nan (York) Childree

Sonja Nan Childree age 79 passed away on December 26, 2019 at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview. She was born in Pinckard, Alabama on August 31, 1940 to James and Evelynn York. Sonja has been a lifelong resident of Crestview. She worked as a cashier manager for Winn Dixie and retired after 37 years. She loved her family, her most precious memories were spent talking, enjoying life updates, and gossip with her friends and family. She was a giving woman who helped anyone that needed it. She owned a store in Dorcas called Mattox General Store for years and she loved meeting people there and sharing her life with them. Sonja was preceded in death by her husband, William Virgil Childree and both of her parents.

Survivors include her son William “Bobby” Childree and his wife Debra Ann from Crestview, FL. Her sisters, Barbara Faye Simmons from Pinckard, AL and Cloyce Juaree Childers of Cantonment, FL. Her grandson whom she was like a parent to, Zackary Lee Childree and his girlfriend Megan Nichole Riley of Crestview, Fl. A great-grandson, Branson Lee Childree of Crestview, FL along with extended family, and numerous friends that she cared for throughout her life.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home from 10-11 AM. Funeral services will be held the same day on Monday, December 30, 2019 beginning at 11AM at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Live Oak Cemetery.
