Alice Baker born July 23, 1927 and died April 14, 2020. She was the youngest of seven children. She is pre-deceased by her husband, John Quentin “J.Q." Baker; sisters and brothers, Mozelle Maddox, Beuford Wages, Nelson Jones, Bryant Jones and Enzell Jones. She is survived by Clonez Wilson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Everyone that knew Alice knew she was certainly feisty and always enjoyed telling stories of life and looking at family pictures.
Alice never had any children but the closest she had to a daughter was Vicky Corbin. Vicky was with her until she passed into Glory. They met when J.Q. Baker was alive and she worked at Captain D's. Alice and J.Q. were regulars. Vicky and her daughter Skyla visited with Alice nearly every week for the past years, right up to her death.
Alice lived an interesting life, managing Christos on Main Street for years until it closed. When she married J.Q. she quit smoking and, for the most part, quit cussing when he was around. She would often tell the story of how proud she was when J.Q. preached at Antioch Baptist Church. Alice would often tell anyone that was with her, that J.Q. was the best thing that ever happened to her.
She will be laid to rest next to him in Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church's Cemetery on Friday at 3:30. Her sister Clonez is her nearest living relative. Clonez lives with her own son Buddy. Her two nieces, who Alice liked to claim that she raised, Jeanette Howell and Annette Mathews, live in South Okaloosa County.
While it was not always a joy (She was a pistol) it was always entertaining. Alice Baker will be missed. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and her pastor was George Katzman. Enjoy the pictures and add more in comments if you like.
