98 years ago, on October 4, 1927, Annie Pearl McCrackin Hooks Evans was born, and God knew on that day that on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, our mom would be celebrating with him. It is with a joyful sadness, because we know who she chose to trade this life for, that her children and their families announce her passing.
Her sense of humor never left her, even in the last few days of her life, and her sweet, sweet spirit will be missed every day of our lives. She was a feisty survivor of hard times and was the first to celebrate the good times, especially seeing her children and their families together. She had a special way of making each person she met feel loved.
Ann was preceded in death by her father, Caleb Arthur McCrackin, and mother, Georgia Ann Dunn McCrackin; her husband, Ed Evans; 4 brothers; 3 sisters, and beloved son, Jonathan Earl Hooks.
She is survived by her children: Marilyn Stephens (Larry); Wanda McLeod (Mike); Lynette Bonta (Chuck); Steve Hooks (Gail); Julie Baggett (Pete); Gwen Boutwell (Don) and Jeffrey Hooks (Julie); 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and special niece, Dena Clayton.
Visitation will be at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 30th at 10 am until a brief service time at 11 am. Private interment will take place at LiveOak Park Memorial Cemetery, with Ms Ann being laid to rest next to her husband.
Whitehurst-Powell is honored to serve the Evans family during their time of need and asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
