Augusto Barreto-Mendez, born on April 26, 1953, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in Orange Park, Florida. He was 71 years old.
Augusto was the beloved son of the late Augusto Barreto and Iris Mendez. On January 12, 1980, he married his devoted wife, Iris M. Barreto, with whom he shared a loving partnership of over four decades. Together, they built a family filled with love and cherished memories.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter, Zulaika Barreto-Molina; his son, Augusto Barreto-Molina, and daughter-in-law Christina Taylor-Barreto; and his grandson, Augusto Cayson Barreto. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Minerva Barreto Mendez, Lisa Barreto De Gregorio, Julio Barreto Castro, and Dalila Barreto Cintron.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Augusto dedicated his career to serving his country with honor and distinction before retiring from military service. His commitment to duty and his contributions to the nation will be remembered with gratitude by all who knew him.
A service honoring Augusto’s life and military service was held on December 6, 2024, at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. Military honors were presented in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation.
