Bruce E. Beckstrom, a retired AT&T international engineer and long-time resident of Cumming, GA, died at his home early on the morning of August 27th at the age of 86 after a long battle with Parkinson’s.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 34 years Dorcas/Dee Beckstrom, as well as his son, Eric Beckstrom and his daughter Susan Kammerer, along with their spouses and five grandchildren. Surviving him also are his stepchildren, Taylor and Stephanie Grover, their spouses and his two step grandchildren.
Bruce was born in Jamestown, N. Y. on August 1, 1938, and moved to California with his parents in the mid-fifties. Bruce received an associate engineering degree from the College of San Mateo and went on to work for Western Electric, which later became AT&T. In the 1980’s he was transferred to Georgia where he designed a new telephone communication system which included projects in Kuwait after it was destroyed in the Gulf War. As an engineer, this was his crowning achievement. He loved his job and woke up every morning excited to design and engineer new systems. Bruce later retired from AT&T in 1995.
Bruce was kindhearted and a valued member of his community where he had many friends. He served on the Habersham Community HOA board for 14 years. He married Dee in 1990 and they enjoyed many years of traveling, eating at gourmet restaurants, watching movies, and learning about history. Bruce was a loving and considerate husband.
There will be memorials in Crestview, Florida and Cumming, Georgia. The funeral will be held in Crestview at Whitehurst Funeral Home on Friday, September 6th. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00pm, the service will begin at 2:00pm with burial to follow at Live Oak Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held in Cumming, GA at Orchards of Habersham’s clubhouse on Sunday, September 15th at 2:00pm.

Bruce will be sorely missed by his wife, family, and friends.
