Carlis Fayrell Jackson, 93, of Baker, Fl, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025.
Born on May 15, 1932, Carlis was the son of Quill and Tammy Jackson. Carlis was raised in Baker, was a member of Baker High School’s first football team, and graduated in 1950. After school, Carlis was drafted and spent the next 3 years in the Korean War as an Army Tank Driver. It took years for Daddy to even talk about his time in service but there now is an entire wall of his house in honor of his service time. Once Carlis returned to the States, he went to work for Monsanto in Pensacola, FL, where he stayed until he retired at the age of 55 in 1987. Also after his return from Korea, he met, and married, the love of his life, Foye Potter on May 15, 1954. They married on Daddy’s birthday so he could remember their anniversary! On May 15, 2025, they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.
Once Daddy retired, he and mom embarked on a life that included “storage wars”, yard sales, flea markets, fishing at Lake Panasoffkee, FL, cruising, traveling, and, let’s not forget the casinos and slot machines and Atmore every Monday because he got half off on the buffet!! Everyone knew he loved a good buffet! They stayed active and never let the grass grow under their feet.
Carlis is survived by his wife, Foye Potter Jackson, his daughter, Janet Jackson, sons Steven Ricketts, and Michael Golles, as well as his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Myra Lynn Ricketts and all of his brothers & sisters: Orel, Buddy, Hardy, Alto, Ina Mae, Velma, Curtis, Bobby & Sylvester.
Funeral service will take place at Whitehurst Funeral Home on December 11, 2025, at 11am, with visitation at 10am. There will be no graveside service but please come back to our house for lunch and fellowship.
Carlis will be remembered for his story-telling, his love of “selling stuff”, fishing at the lake, helping others when we could and, most importantly, his love for his wife & daughters, sons and his whole extended family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.whitehurstpowellfuneralhome.com
