Donald Dewitt Steele


            Dewitt Steele, age 91, of Baker passed away on Tuesday September 21, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 2, 1930, to Joseph and Julia Steele. Dewitt graduated from Baker High School in 1948. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Army 82nd Airborne. He served during the Korean war and proudly served in General Eisenhower’s Honor Guard. After his service, he began his career at Vitro Services in 1953. Dewitt also managed the Steele family farm in Baker from 1966 to 2016. Dewitt was a member of First Baptist Church of Crestview. He loved to farm and serve his community and church. He enjoyed being outdoors, taking walks along Steele Road, and visiting with his brothers. Most of all he loved his Lord and Savior, his family, and his friends. Dewitt was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Steele, of 63 years; his parents Joseph and Julia Steele; and three brothers: J.S., Delmus, and Lamar Steele.

             Dewitt is Survived by his children: Joe Steele and Sabra Arzaga and her husband John; two brothers: Burt Steele and Winston Steele and his wife Barbara; his grandchildren: Michael Steele, Jessica Williams, Caitlin Deems, and Rachael Arzaga; great grandchildren: Ethan Steele, Avery Williams, Joel Deems, and Claire Deems.

             A graveside service for Dewitt will be held on Saturday September 25, 2021, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by donations made to Emerald Coast Hospice,  550 Redstone Ave. West Crestview, Florida 32536.
