Donna Lee Smith Hudson Erdman passed away Friday, August 20, 2021, at the Stanley House in Defuniak Springs as the results of complications from Covid-19. Donna was born February 1, 1945 in Salem, New Jersey to Jennings Bryan Smith and Marian Brown Smith. As a child, while her father was in the Army, she lived in New Jersey, Atlanta, and Jacksonville. Upon her father’s retirement, she moved to Galliver. Donna was a graduate of Baker School, Pensacola Junior College, Troy State University, and the University of West Florida.
Donna spent her professional career working for the Okaloosa County School Board as an English teacher, a guidance counselor and a principal. She especially loved her time as principal of Southside Elementary. Donna enjoyed playing piano and organ at the churches she attended and singing in the choirs. She loved helping people, often buying and taking groceries and clothes to people in need.
Donna was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her husband, Robert Erdman, her sons, Jay Hudson of Stateline, Nevada, and John Hudson (Freedom) of Baker; her grandchildren, Emma and Andrew Hudson of Defuniak Springs. She is also survived by her brother Stanley Smith of Orlando, Her sisters: Mary Lollie of Ponce De Leon; Martha Stant of Mt. Pleasant; and Janet Bryan of Crestview.
Visitation with the family will be held at the chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home on Thursday, September 2 from 5pm until 6pm with a memorial service to follow at 6pm.
