Dr. Michael Clay, 64 years of age, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 10, 2023, at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany. Michael was born October 26, 1958, to James and Kaye Clay at Wright Patterson Medical Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Michael graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He then went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University, continuing his education at Kansas University, where he earned his M.D. He completed his residency at Eglin Air Force Base, specializing in Family Medicine. Michael served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as Lieutenant Colonel after 28 years of active duty. After his retirement, he continued to serve his country as a civilian physician for Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. Two years ago, he decided to take a temporary position in Bavaria, Germany, where he continued to work as a civilian physician at Hohenfels Army Post. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, exploring new places, and learning about other cultures. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, building, and home improvement projects. He was a lifelong runner and was on the track teams at Pryor Junior High School, Choctawhatchee High School, and was a distance runner for Western Kentucky University. Michael is survived by his wife, GuangHong (Mollie); his stepson George; his children, Austin, Sydney, and Collin (by a previous marriage); his father, James Clay; his brothers, John Clay (Anna), David Clay (Gayla), along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Kaye, and his brother, Stephen. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 10-11am at Woodlawn Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life to begin at 11am. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 9:30am.
