Eleanor Ruth (McCallum) Wilson was born May 23, 1934, in the Dorcas Community near Crestview, FL,
into a north Okaloosa County pioneer family. She passed from this life on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, in
Crestview, FL.
She is predeceased by her husband, James L. Wilson; parents John Douglas and Addie Lee (Rathel)
McCallum; and all of her eleven siblings: O. B. Gatlin, Edith Powell, Doug McCallum, Katie Belle Thorn,
Mabel Bolton, W. A. McCallum, Isabelle Owens, Murdock McCallum, Rev. Donald McCallum, Helen
Holleman, and Fred McCallum, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Ronnie (Marcia) Wilson; grandson, Matthew Wilson; step-grandson, Daniel
Walker; and great granddaughter, Madison Emily Walker; 2 adopted granddaughters, Amanda Ashley (her children Adalia & Thomas), and Marisa McKee (her children Cameron & Aaron). She is also survived by three (3) sisters-in-law,
Sarah McCallum, Virginia Wilson, and Portip Wilson along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was a 1951 graduate of Crestview High School. Later in life, she pursued a long-time dream to
further her education and earned an associate’s degree in finance from Okaloosa-Walton Junior College.
She was employed for many years by First National Bank of Crestview as secretary to the president as
well as the board of trustees. She retired from Civil Service at Hurlburt AFB as a budget analyst.
A very talented musician, Eleanor served First Assembly of God Church (Life Point) in Crestview as
pianist and organist for 41 years. She also served as secretary to the board of deacons there for 12
years. In addition, she played for several quartets and other singing groups in the area. She also
delighted her nieces and nephews with her rousing rendition of their favorite songs.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home, 436 W.
James Lee Blvd. in Crestview at 1:00 p.m. Visitation is as follows: 12
noon to 1:00 p.m. for friends and guests.
Special thanks to Crescent Park Assisted Living Facility for their love, kindness, and faithful attention
during her residence there! During her time there she loved reading books, playing BINGO, assembling
puzzles, sharing meals with friends, and talking about her family history…all which she loved!
