ELIA AUSTIN MARTIN

Ms. Elia Austin Martin was born February 8, 1967 to Ida and James Austin in Charlotte, North Carolina, and departed this life on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in Crestview, Florida. Elia became a Christian at an early age, and continued to trust and thank God for his continued favor. In 1985 after graduating from Harding High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, Elia attended Johnson C. Smith University until 1987, where she studied computer science and played basketball with the Lady Bulls. After school Elia went on to work as a deputy sheriff for Mecklenburg County, North Carolina for 6 years,  and later went on to work for the United States Postal Service until 1999 when she went to work for Piedmont Natural Gas Company now Duke Energy. In 2010, Elia continued her education on line with the Art Institute, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and graduated with a degree in Interactive Media and Web Design. Elia worked various positons with Duke Energy, and at the time of her death in April 2024 she had promoted to Senior Asset Protection Manage. As a trustworthy and hard-working employee Elia was allowed to work from home at which time she moved to Crestview Florida in 2020. Elia was preceded in death by her father James Austin. She leaves to morn her death and cherish her memory: her mother Ida Austin Williams (Charles Williams); daughters Jewel Ebony Chisholm (Crystal Kiser) and Jalia Alicia Martin; brother Jamel Eugene Austin (Kisha Austin); granddaughter, Carter Marie Kiser; Niece Harper Addison Austin; God sons Jace and Eric Coxton; closes friend and cousin Shawn Coxton; friend and ex-husband James Martin; a host family members and friends. Elia was a beautiful lady with a positive and loving attitude at all times. She never met a stranger and was liked by everyone who knew her. Her family will honor her wishes not to have a funeral but will have a celebration of her life and spread her ashes in the Gulf waters that she loved. Elia will be greatly missed.  A Celebration of Life will be held May 24, 2024 from 12:00-2:00pm at Latta Nature Preserve Quest Center Park, 6345 Sample Road Huntersville, NC.
