Elsie Garrett Obituary

Elsie B. Garrett, age 89, lifetime resident of Crestview, Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 19, 2020. Elsie was born in Andalusia, Alabama to Mallie Boyette and Dora Worley Boyette. Elsie graduated from Baker High School in 1947. She worked at the McKinley Climate Lab on Eglin AFB, Fl from 1948-1953.

Elsie was elected in 1964 as Supervisor of Elections for Okaloosa County and held this office position for 24 years (1965-1989).  She has the honor of being the longest serving Election Supervisor in Okaloosa County’s history. She was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Milligan where she served as choir director, taught Sunday school, served as director of Vacation Bible School and was involved in many other programs of the church.

Elsie always had a smile on her face and was always kind, caring, and helpful to others. She married J.T. Garrett on September 21, 1951 at the First Baptist Church of Milligan. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Boyette and D.B. Boyette; and one sister, Eva Peaden.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, J.T. Garrett; one son, Lynn Garrett and wife Tamela; one daughter, Renee Garrett Barrow and husband Chris; three granddaughters, Kelly Wilson (Braxton), Kimberly Kellogg (Blaine), Kristin Campbell (Rawlins); 8 great grandchildren, Garrett , Grey and Grant Wilson, Kai and Noah Kellogg and Easton, Tucker and Charli Kaye Campbell.  She is also survived by nephews, Butch Peaden and Raymond Boyette and nieces,  Betty Howell and Wanda Hahn.

Funeral services for Elsie will be held on Friday January 24th, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held the same day beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery.

The family would like to thank family and friends for all of their love, prayers and support during this difficult time.  A special thanks goes to the staff of Superior Residences in Niceville, Fl. and Emerald Coast Hospice for their love, support, and care.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Emerald Coast Hospice in memory of Elsie Garrett.
