Emily Helen Windsor, age 90, passed away on May 19, 2026, after a brief illness.
Born on February 23, 1936, in Brewton, Alabama, Helen lived a life devoted to faith, family, education, and service to others. A longtime resident of Crestview, Florida, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Crestview.
Helen graduated from Troy State University and dedicated 38 years of her life to elementary education. She began her teaching career in Montgomery, Alabama, where she taught for eight years before moving to Crestview. From 1967 until her retirement in 1997, she taught at Bob Sikes Elementary School where she was a beloved teacher and mentor.
On March 30, 1957, she married the love of her life, Homer Jerry Windsor. Together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.
Helen was known among those who loved her as the organizer of games, gatherings, meals and family celebrations. She had a special gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel at home. Her generous heart, fun-loving nature, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on the many lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Jerry Windsor; her parents, Earl and Naomi Lisenby; her three brothers, Alfred Lisenby, John Lisenby, and Willard Lisenby; and her three sisters, Thelma Odom, Flora Underwood, and Dorothy White.
She is survived by her brother, Orlan Lisenby; her sons, Ken Windsor and his wife Jackie, and Greg Windsor and his wife Melissa; her grandchildren, Jeremy Windsor, Shana Permenter, and Jana Ashing; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Ava and Breanna Windsor, Keira Permenter, and Eve and Ivy Ashing.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Carington Manor for the love, kindness, and care they showed Helen during her time there.
In accordance with her wishes, Helen donated her body to the School of Medicine at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, allowing her legacy of helping others to continue through medical education.
Helen was a blessing to the many lives she touched throughout her 90 years. Through her family, her students, her church, and her friends, her influence will continue to be felt for generations. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
