Fannie Lou “Mutt” Brown of Baker, FL, passed away on the 4th of September 2022 in Crestview, FL. She was born December 3, 1928, to James Oscar “Jake” Echols and Lula Virginia Oliver in Covington County, AL. She attended Carolina School and Andalusia High School.
Fannie was involved in Baker School PTA and Band Boosters. She was an active member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for ten years.
Her husband of 52 years Henry Newton “Newt” Brown, their son Terry Randall Brown; her parents Jake and Lula Echols; brothers Willie Clyde Echols, James E. “Bill” Echols, Lavon Echols, and Ronald Echols; and sisters Lucille Ramer, Annie Mae Davis, and Ruby Jeter predeceased Fannie.
She is survived by children James Edward (Rhonda) Brown of Baker, FL; Thomas Newton (Sharon) Brown of Manchester, TN; and Virginia Arnassia “Ginny” (Lynn) Griner of Apalachicola, FL; brother LeRoy Echols of Mobile, AL; sisters Esther Ramer of Brooksville, FL; and Margie Echols of Andalusia, AL. Also surviving are grandchildren Karen Brown, Amy McLendon, Andrea Moak, Tabitha Bullock, Christa Herron, Lora Phillips, Justin Scott, Jamie Jernigan, Ashley Griner, Terry Griner, 22+ great or great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Crescent Park Village for their support and care given to Fannie. We also want to thank Vitas Hospice.
Visitation will be held Friday September 9, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Interment will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Baker, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Fannie’s memory to the building fund at Pilgrim Rest.
