In loving memory of, Fred Clayton Wood. Fred was born on September 9th, 1935, in Scott County, Va to Denver and Gertie Wood. He was raised in Norton, Va, more specifically Hoot Owl Holler. Mr. Wood passed away peacefully, surrounded by his caring family. Before his health declined, his hobbies were: deer, turkey, and squirrel hunting, fishing, hunting hickory chickens or mountain mushrooms, playing cards like poker or rummy, and playing guitar and singing. Fred LOVED Hank Williams Sr. and always said, there was no better singer than Hank. Mr. Wood was an avid song writer, he could quickly make up funny puns, rhymes, etc. and always had a joke to tell. Fred enjoyed cooking, especially during the holidays. He was a friendly, witty person, loved babies, children, and animals, but most of all, his family. Fred retired after serving 20 years in the United States Army. He was a loyal serviceman, and frequently talked about those valuable, treasured years in the military. His first tattoo on his arm said, “death before dishonor.” He made many wonderful lifelong friends while serving in the Army. Mr. Wood is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Do Jum “Kim” Wood: his children, Rocky, Rickey, Rebecca, and Ruby Wood (Yakalavich) and Jurry Kim. His grandchildren: Matthew, Denver, Christian, Brandon Wood, Jason and Austin Suhyda, Russell and Kimora Livingston, Evan Yakalavich, and great grandchild, Evan Wood. Sister: Brenda Wood. He is preceded in death by his parents: Denver and Gertie Wood, siblings – Jay and Winfield Wood, Caffie Bass, and Rose Ann Kennedy – grandson, Rocky Wood Jr. On Tuesday October 11, 2022 at the Chapel of Whitehurst Powwll Funeral Home the immediate family will hold a memorial service with Military honors for Mr. Wood, and to let him know that he will be forever remembered, Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.
